With three decades of experience, Randy serves as a Private Wealth Advisor and CEO of Fathom Advisors. As CEO, he leads the advisor group at Fathom and helps set the strategic direction of the firm. As an advisor, he works closely with some of the firm’s most complex clients, helping them make thoughtful decisions across the many interconnected areas of their financial lives.
For Randy, understanding the numbers is only part of the job. He wants to know how clients got where they are today, the best and worst financial decisions they’ve made, what matters to their families, and what they hope to accomplish with their wealth. Even the things they worry about are important to understand. This idea reflects the meaning behind the Fathom name: “after deep consideration, to understand.” Randy believes the most meaningful work is accomplished when he can fully understand a client’s story before determining a path forward.
Planning Specialty
Randy especially enjoys working with business owners, executives, and families whose financial lives have become increasingly complex. His clients tend to be driven people who care deeply about what they’re working toward—and who appreciate having an advisor bring clarity to decisions involving taxes, estate planning, executive compensation, investments, and other connected priorities.
Randy often describes his role as serving as the CFO for his clients. They are the chief decision-makers, while his job is to understand their full financial picture, bring ideas and analysis to the table, and make sure important tasks are carried out accurately and on time.
His Approach
Randy believes he can make the greatest impact for clients when financial planning and asset management are addressed together. This allows him to help clients consider each decision in light of the bigger picture and pay close attention to the details surrounding their financial plan. Tax planning is an important part of that work, and he helps clients make strategic decisions that compound meaningfully over time.
Through consistent, open communication, Randy becomes a trusted advisor for his clients. He meets with them regularly to stay current on the decisions and opportunities affecting their plans and encourages them to reach out whenever something changes. He also adapts to the level of involvement each client wants. Some prefer to understand the technical details and collaborate closely on individual strategies; others want to know that the right work is being done without becoming immersed in every calculation. In each scenario, Randy delivers personalized insight to meet the client’s needs.
Professional Background
Randy’s interest in finances began early. While in college, he met with a financial advisor who encouraged him to pursue an opportunity with American Express Financial Advisors (later Ameriprise Financial). Determined to get his start, Randy persistently pursued an internship, which he started in 1995 before moving into a full-time role the following year. He was appointed as a financial advisor on December 17, 1997.

Community Involvement
Helping others is one of Randy’s core values, and he has spent more than two decades volunteering with Homes of Hope, helping build homes for families in Ensenada, Mexico. For Randy, building a home is about creating a foundation for something greater: stability, better health, and the opportunity for families to focus on education and build a better future.
In 2024, Randy began volunteering as a pilot with Angel Flight, combining his passion for aviation with the opportunity to help people travel more easily to and from medical appointments.
Life Outside the Office
Randy has lived in Edina, Minnesota, since 2008 with his wife Paula. The two met at an Ameriprise conference and married in 2002; Paula has since started her own career-coaching business and published a book titled One Decision Away. They have two sons—Carlo and Enzo—of whom they are incredibly proud.
Aviation is one of Randy’s greatest interests, but he is just as happy on a golf course and enjoys both competitive golf and rounds with friends and family. He also spends time near the family farm where he grew up, visiting his dad and siblings and hunting in the fall.
